In Focus: Assembly Skills and Smart Assistance Systems

Maintaining assembly skills and providing long-term preparation for the assembly personnel for what is needed in Industry 4.0 – that was the goal of the PALM4.Q project (process and work-related learning in assembly procedures for future-oriented employee qualifications); it has been successfully concluded after running for a period of three years. Leopold Kostal GmbH & Co. KG in Lüdenscheid and the MTM Institute developed an innovative training concept within the project and it connects current and future qualification needs with modern learning methods.

MTM Regional in China: A Win-Win Situation for All Involved

Meetings of MTM/IE regional groups have been a well-established procedure in Germany for many years. From Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria in the south to the north of the country, MTM experts and interested industrial engineers from various sectors regularly meet in their region to share ideas about using MTM, best practice scenarios and current and future challenges. The event format is now taking root in China too. The first regional group meeting was held in Suzhou in November.

MTM-EasyTime Can Be Booked at the Online Store from 1 January 2020

Knowing what production can actually achieve – i.e. how many items can be produced using a certain number of employees, how much time needs to be planned for a certain activity and what potential is lying dormant – is absolutely essential, both at large corporations and at small and medium-sized enterprises. However, introducing a modern productivity management system is (still) not an issue for many medium-sized companies; as a result, they are failing to capitalize on improvement potential and, in the end, their competitiveness. They say that determining solid, work-related time data is too complicated, too long-winded and, above all, too expensive. However, even corporations with far fewer resources and expertise in industrial engineering can gain transparency in their production now – by using MTM-EasyTime, the first cloud-based software solution for determining standard times.

MTM-1 Base (E-Learning) Now Available in Portuguese Too

More than 200 participants have already completed their MTM-1 Base training as an e-learning course and have therefore laid the foundation for the MTM Practitioner certificate at their workplace, so to speak. “The demand for our digital training format shows that we’ve adopted the right approach with our blended learning concept – i.e. a mix of e-learning and courses that need to be attended in person,” says Prof. Dr. Peter Kuhlang, Head of the MTM Institute and the initiator of the MTM e-learning method. Kuhlang can also dispel any concerns expressed by many interested persons that e-learning could be too complicated, on the basis of the experience gained from this first year. “All the participants so far have successfully completed the course; the feedback on handling the learning modules has been thoroughly positive.” The MTM-1 Base e-learning course is now not only available in German and English, but in Portuguese too. The Italian and Spanish versions will join them next year.

Liebherr: The Time before the SOP Is Critical

In the light of digitalization, globalization and growing competitive pressure, Liebherr-Hausgeräte Lienz GmbH has reorganized its operations, both nationally and internationally. The introduction of method standards is playing an important role in this transformation process. Faced with the new structures, the managers viewed it as an urgent task to involve managers from departments that were not aware of the issue of time management in the past, but where this subject affects them – and at short notice.

Practitioner Refresher Course Only for One Process Building Block System

The family of process building blocks (MTM and corporate process building block systems) has grown. In addition to MTM-1®, MTM-SD®, MTM-2®, MTM-UAS® and MTM-MEK®, it has also been possible to complete an MTM Practitioner training course with the new MTM-HWD® process building block system or corporate process building block systems like C Values and BMW SD since this year. A high-quality refresher course covering the rules and new features of all the process building block systems is, however, no longer feasible in one single course. The MTM Practitioner refresher course will therefore be offered with a major focus on one MTM process building block system from 1 January 2020 onwards.
