MTM – Work design productive and safe

1st International E-Mas Conference in Mexico

26 Feb. 2019
Developing Skills for the Automobile Sector

The Institute for Industrial
Management (FIR) at RWTH Aachen University, Deutsche MTM-Vereinigung e. V., the WBA Tooling Academy Aachen, the Lean Enterprise Institute and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey are organizing the first international E-Mas conference in Mexico on 21–22 March 2019. The partners are using E-Mas to develop an all-round and integrated further training concept for specialist workers, human resources developers and operational management personnel in the automobile industry in Mexico. Blended learning, a type of learning where the benefits of events attended by people and e-learning are combined, forms the basis for this. Deutsche MTM-Vereinigung e. V. is responsible for the technical implementation and operating the e-learning platform. The platform has been online since the beginning of January.

The project partners have been determining the specific needs for qualifications at corporations in the automotive sector during the past few months. Discussions were held with the managers of enterprises like Brose, VW, Adient, Jatco, Compas, BMW, Hella and Schaeffler. The first MTM training courses have already been held. The 1st International E-Mas Conference is designed to continue developing existing relations with the local corporations, the Mexican training partners and the Mexican Chamber of Foreign Trade.

Guided by the heading “The Road to Industry 4.0 – Developing Skills for the Process of Change in the Mexican Automotive Sector,” the conference will focus on suggested solutions to cope with the process of industrial change. The speakers will come from the Mexican automobile industry, the German-Mexican Chamber of Trade, RWTH Aachen University, Deutsche MTM-Vereinigung e. V. and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The latter had found out about the state of implementation of the E-Mas development project at Deutsche MTM-Vereinigung e. V. in Hamburg at the end of last year and had reached an understanding with Prof. Dr. Peter Kuhlang, who is the Head of the MTM Institute and the person responsible for the establishment of the e-learning platform, on extending the content of the project (to include logistics, ergonomics and start-up management) and its geographical expansion (Latin America). The range of further training programs currently covers the following certified training courses:

  • MTM Practitioner with the “blue card” as the final qualification,
  • Chief Workplace Innovation Manager,
  • Expert Industrial Tool and Die Maker and
  • Lean Management 4.0 Expert.

In addition to the keynote addresses on “Transformation towards Industry 4.0” and “Human Work in the 4.0 Age – the Connection between the Digital and Real Worlds,” (Prof. Dr. Peter Kuhlang) and the panel discussions, there are four workshops on the program of the 1st International Conference:
